Fishing Lakes
LOCH WITHIEL
A large lake in attractive surroundings, set in the middle of the golf course, well stocked with Common, Mirror, and Crucian Carp; Tench, Roach small to large, and good sized eels. Most fish will be 2 to 3 lbs, but there is at least one unidentified large fish, estimated over 18lbs, been there for years, but never caught…. Yet! There are around 12 fishing points, safely away from golfers.
SWANLAKE
Much smaller, and not so well stocked, but a good change for regular fishermen. Occasional intruders arrive from the Fowey river via a connecting leat, and become marooned! Both trout and salmon have been caught here! However the Environment Agency would like to see any such fish returned to the river if practical. And we do sometimes have nesting swans, and may have to limit fishing!
FOWEY RIVER
Although we enjoy a long stretch of river bank, it is not very good or suitable for fishing. The river is tidal up to about our 12 th green. However, you can fish from the town’s park where it is tidal, or at Lanhydrock which offers about a mile of free fishing south from Respryn bridge. The river offers trout, sea trout, and salmon; also bass and flat fish in the tidal part.
