Fishing at lostwithiel

Two well stocked lakes set in attractive surroundings at the centre of our golf course.

The Lostwithiel Hotel, Golf and Country Club is lucky to have some of the finest fishing facilities close to hand open to the public and available to guests staying at the hotel.

FAIRWAY LAKE

A large 2 acre lake set in attractive surroundings at the centre of our golf course. The lake is well stocked with Common, Mirror, and Crucian Carp; Roach small to large, and good sized eels to 5lbs.

Most fish will be 3 to 12lbs, but there are some unidentified large fish, estimated over 18lbs, been there for years, but never caught - yet! There are around 12 fishing points, safely away from golfers.

SWAN LAKE

This smaller lake makes a good change for regular fishermen.

This lake is stocked with Crucian Carp, Roach and Rudd.

Occasional intruders arrive into the lake from the Fowey river via a connecting leat, and become marooned there. Both trout and salmon have been caught within the lake; however, the Environment Agency request that such catches are returned to the River coarse where practical.

 

Information

For carp try legering hair- rigged meat or corn. Surface fished crust, dog biscuits or pellets can be rewarding when its warm. The Crucians, while very sizable, are finicky. Try for them with float fished bread, corn or at any time maggot, fish close- in anduse a delicate float.Roach and rudd sport can be on had on float fished maggot or caster, over loose feed. Try for big eels on legered lobworms use the biggest ones you can get hold of.

From November to March, we offer hotel guests booked for dinner, bed and breakfast complimentary fishing passes.

During April and October we offer hotel guests staying between Sunday and Thursday nights inclusive complimentary fishing passes.

At other times, a day ticket must be purchased subject to availability, or in advance.

GROUND (or WATER) RULES for our lakes.

  • All catches must be returned to the water.
  • Unhooking mats compulsory.
  • No keep nets, nor fixed method feeders.
  • 2 Rods only; barbless and micro barbed hooks only.
  • No fixed leads, running leads only.
  • Leave no litter, and no cans please.
  • All sweetcorn and meat should be prepared and in containers before fishing.
  • Bolies, pellet, and groundbait, only in moderation.
  • No Peanuts/Tiger Nuts
